Sailaday OK supports marine based adventure therapy to help adults, their families and young persons recover from the consequences of addictions, abuse and other trauma .

Our unique evidence based therapeutic model promotes positive personal change through practical expereince. To reduce disadvantage and social exclusion  by provision of therapeutic sailing  & Educate therapists and skippers in the benefits of therapeutic sailing.

Long Term Planning   next five years

Expansion

  1. Look for and purchase suitable new and different boat. Belonging to the charity. (Possibly a catamaran)
  2. This will increase access to wider client range..
  3. Collaborate with other charities.
  4. Be self sufficient by 2015

Charity Management

Strategies for moving forward and learn more about ‘The Big Society’ and its impact on charities. Recognised the need for change in attitude and our aims and ambitions.

  1. ‘governance and management,
  2.  ‘effective and efficient trustees’,
  3.  ‘communication’,
  4.  ‘Social networking and website etc’.
  5.  Find / Attract a Patron

Self Sufficient

  1. Explore possibilities of CIC
  2. Explore alternative commercial use of the boat.

 

Funding

  1. Initiate a programme of looking for corporate sponsorship.
  2. Purchase boat. £175,000 including first 5 yrs of management of boat.
  3. 1 & 2 might go hand in hand.
  4. Increase existing programme of funding.  Grants, Benefit Events, Boxes, IT methods of collecting funding.   
  5. Use the boat to generate funds, Charter boat and commercial Adventure therapy

Personnel

  1. project manager
  2. Manger Assistant either voluntary or part time
  3. Train and prepare another skipper and therapist

 

Beneficiaries

  1.  Increase clients form Cornwall
  2. Work with other groups. (Abuse and Trauma and Family groups)
  3. Increase sessions of days at sea
  4. Increase mentoring programme for a running system of working with ‘returnees’

Publicity

  1. Increase relationship with the press and news services
  2. Produce a documentary in order to attract TV attention.

Research

Overall strategy is research and keeps building our therapeutic model, gathering evidence and presenting it.

  1. Use whatever and whoever is interested in means to explore why this work so effective, what it is about water that has this positive effect.
  2. Research who else could benefit from our model of working
  3. Continue to write articles and offer presentations to Conferences
  4. Use Educational Establishments to help research, Business, Psychology of Wilderness Therapy.
